Construction was in the midst of natural features, including wetlands, parklands, rare and endangered species, forested habitat, and streams.
The project crosses the Northwest Branch and Upper Paint Branch Watersheds and the Upper Branch Special Protection Area of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, crowning it as the most restrictive and environmentally-sensitive of all four Intercounty Connector contracts.
