Key Challenges & Project Details
- Design/construction of a new bridge located on Route 460/15 (Third Street), which is 8′ wider and 34′ longer than the existing, structurally deficient, four-lane, seven-span concrete bridge over Buffalo Creek
- Design concept lengthened the structure in an environmentally-sensitive manner to improve its hydraulic capacity, while minimizing required approach roadwork by maintaining the existing vertical alignment
- Although project required one lane of traffic be maintained via temporary signalization, Corman implemented a design that maintained two lanes for efficient vehicular flow
- New structure is a low maintenance four lane, 270′ long, 59′ wide three-span integral structure with weathering steel girders
- Project was constructed primarily in two phases to maintain traffic with a third phase to install a pedestrian sidewalk
- Corman developed a quality control/quality assurance plan with JMT and strategically supervised its implementation to accommodate the Minimum Quality Control and Quality Assurance Requirements for Design-Build and Public-Private Transportation Act Projects
- Project had no lost-time accidents and was completed on time and under budget
