Key Challenges & Project Details
- Corman was given 260 calendar days to rehabilitate a historic twin cantilevered span bridge built in 1922
- Bridge improvements were constructed in two major phases while maintaining two lanes of traffic
- Existing ornamental components were removed, stored, or replaced with numerous new precast replicas.
- Removed and replaced P.C. concrete deck and sidewalk, repaired concrete encasement of steel girders with shotcrete
- Repaired substructure concrete and ornamental concrete elements including the towers
- Repaired the shear lock system
- Cleaned and painted structural steel
- Pointed existing masonry
- Milled bridge approaches
- Overlaid bridge approaches with bituminous concrete
- Corman completed the project on schedule in 8 short months
