Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Corman was given 260 calendar days to rehabilitate a historic twin cantilevered span bridge built in 1922
  • Bridge improvements were constructed in two major phases while maintaining two lanes of traffic
  • Existing ornamental components were removed, stored, or replaced with numerous new precast replicas.
  • Removed and replaced P.C. concrete deck and sidewalk, repaired concrete encasement of steel girders with shotcrete
  • Repaired substructure concrete and ornamental concrete elements including the towers
  • Repaired the shear lock system
  • Cleaned and painted structural steel
  • Pointed existing masonry
  • Milled bridge approaches
  • Overlaid bridge approaches with bituminous concrete
  • Corman completed the project on schedule in 8 short months
