Partners in Innovation
To serve you better, Corman Construction continues to build national joint ventures and strategic partnerships with the area’s most prestigious design/building and engineering firms. Each new relationship is another opportunity for growth and innovation.
Architect/Engineering
Firm: Ammann & Whitney
Project: Design-Build Frederick Douglass Bridge South Capitol Street Over Anacostia River — Corman contracted with Ammann & Whitney and RK & K to design the bridge lowering system and new South Capitol Street roadway leading up to the bridge.
Project: Design-Build Multiple Culvert Rehabilitation Project – Region 2 – Richmond, Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia — Design engineer.
Firm: Whitney Bailey Cox & Magnani, LLC (WBCM)
Project: Design-Build MD 30 Hampstead Bypass— To maximize the benefits of the design-build process our team divided the project into three areas to allow an overlap of design and construction enabling construction to begin as soon as possible.
Consulting Engineers
Firm: Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT)
Project: Design-Build MD 924 (Main Street) from MD 22 to Maulsby Avenue — Design Partner.
Firm: Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLC (RK & K)
Project: Design-Build MD Route 216 US 29 to I-95 — Corman and RK & K developed a plan to bifurcate the proposed MD 216 roadway in order to balance the earthwork. This effort cut months off the schedule and yielded an environmental benefit by reducing impact to wetlands and buffers. It also reduced heavy-equipment traffic through adjacent neighborhoods thereby minimizing noise, safety risks, wear on infrastructure and inconvenience to local communities and traveling public. Corman and RK & K worked side-by-side during the entire design/construction process maximizing efficiency in both design applications and means and methods of construction.
Project: Design-Build Frederick Douglass Bridge South Capitol Street Over Anacostia River — The area under and adjacent to the bridge consisted of an abandoned underground fuel tank system. To access the construction site, conduct bridge reconfiguration and prior to the start of bridge construction, Corman and RK & K collaborated to remove 15 fuel oil tanks. This task required extensive planning to avoid disruption to the existing bridge which was to remain in service during construction. Also contracted with RK & K and Almmann & Whitney to design the bridge lowering system and the new South Capitol Street roadway leading up to the bridge. In addition, collaborated with RK & K to propose a Value Engineering change which eliminated a significant amount of risk, provided a more aesthetically-pleasing appearance and led to a cost savings for the owner.
